Hi, I’m Karen Thatcher (the Thatch behind the Creative), I’m based in Ashford, Kent.

I began my career as a Nurse, but I’m now a Freelance Creative and Comms Consultant, specialising in (but not limited to) church and charity comms. (Slightly different working environment!)

I started my own business in 2019 to incorporate freelance comms and my little empathy cards shop, and it has been a wild ride.

At the very centre of my business is empathy which is at the heart of WHO I am as a person, and I believe that empathy is key to communicating well in all walks of life- professionally and personally.

Empathy runs through my veins and so whether it’s in my freelance projects or my shop, I’m passionate about making sure people are heard and valued.

Thatch Creative shop is where I produce cards and prints that reflect real life situations. From first hand experience, I know that when someone’s physical, mental or emotional health is at an all time low, sending or receiving a card saying ‘get well soon’ probably isn’t going to cut it. I wanted to produce cards that are empathetic to real situations: from a simple and honest "thank you", to a way of telling someone that you're thinking of them when they're in pain and you don’t know what to say. It’s so much better to say something, than nothing.

All of my cards are digitally and originally designed, printed on recycled card and filled with a whole lot of heart- you may find some sarcasm; you may also find some tenderness, you definitely WILL find real life.

When I’m not doing all of this… I’m a daughter, a sister, a dog-mumma and a friend, all of which I value above everything else.
